Summary/Abstract: This paper reviews international and home special literature on spatial identity on the event of delineation of the area of newly established districts. Through their critical analysis it concludes that versus the widespread conviction, there exists micro-regional identity in Hungary. Social ties to lower middle-level spaces (contrary to national identity acquired through symbols) relies on residents’ knowledge of the locality. These are the bases of the love of native land cited by Jenő Szűcs as well, i.e. the personal ties relying on the common experience and memories of generations transferred to next generations. This form of spatial identity can be learnt through social space use habits outside the residence, which approach has been given an important role in the delineation of lower-middle administrative spaces (new districts).
