Summary/Abstract: In Maria Janion’s "Niesamowita Słowiańszczyzna" [‘This Amazing Slavdom’], the reviewers finds an exemplification of a method of practising humanities, as postulated by Professor Janion, as cognition and therapy. The diagnosis of a torn Polish identity, which is caused by ousted Slavdom and a post-colonial trauma, is accompanied by therapeutic suggestions: understanding of one’s own condition and acknowledging oneself in one’s trans-boundary nature. This stands for an opportunity for one to free oneself from a superiority/inferiority complex, whereas for the Polish culture which tends to assimilate various civilisations – an opportunity is offered to overcome its existing limitations.
