Summary/Abstract: In the 1920s and 1930s Balchik turned from a poor fishermen’s village into a trendy holiday resort on the Silver Coast of the Black Sea. The revival was due to many investments made by the Romanian bourgeoisie and representatives of the Romanian Royal Family, namely Queen Mary. With such help, Balchik developed its infrastructure by building access routes on land to connect it to the Romanian territory. Queen Mary’s help was essential in providing Balchik with an airport which facilitated the access of numerous rich Europeans to the newly Romanian resort.
