Summary/Abstract: In this article we draw attention to the life and work of the erudite Nasuh Matrakçi who worked at the court of Sultan Suleiman the Lawgiver at the time when the Ottoman state was at the height of power, and the cultural and artistic life marked the brightest chapters of history. First, we briefly provide an insight into the situation and conditions in the Ottoman court in the sixteenth century - the time of flourishing of the creative imagination of Nasuh Matrakçi and other enthusiasts in the field of Islamic art, gathered in the Sultan’s court. Then, on the basis of facts provided by different sources, we try to neatly present the overall works of Nasuh Matrakçi, concentrating mostly on the field of miniature painting, as we consider that this aspect of Nasuh’s opus is the least researched and known to our cultural and scientific public. The analysis of Matrakçi’s opus explains and justifies his place as one of the central names of the cultural and artistic scene of the sixteenth century Ottoman state.
