The Demons of Civilization. On Photographs by Marian Kucharski

Summary/Abstract: In December 1969, a group of photographers showed their work in Poznañ. Their exhibition was entitled ‘Subjective Photography’. In September and October 2004, pf Gallery in Poznañ organized the exhibition of photographs by Marian Kucharski, one of the best known members of the ‘Subjective Photographers’ group. Kucharski started his career as a photo-reporter. In 1960, he joined the Polish Artist Photographers’ Association. In 1968, he started experimenting with a new method of combining photographs. He produced a series of diptychs. Kucharski was interested in documenting events. His photographs often included political commentary, which criticized social-realism.
