Summary/Abstract: Elina Brotherus believes that digital technology contributes to the destruction of magic in photography. Her series entitled ‘New Pictures’ was inspired by classical masters’ paintings. She was both interested in modernist painters and such artists as Leonardo da Vimnci, Raphael Santi, and Giorgone. Two photographs, which refer to pictures by Caspar David Friedrich show a man looking at a mountain range. ‘Nu endormi’ series includes nude self-studies inspired by pictures of sleeping Venus. Brotherus’s most recent photographs were taken during a trip to Tuscany.
