Signal Propagation in the Model of a Tie-less Community

Summary/Abstract: Typical models of human communities often involve networks consisting of several individuals connected by weaker or stronger ties. These networks provide a structured pathway of signal transmission through the community. In the modern information society, however, one observes a different type of community, which lacks a clearly defined and consistent structure. This paper presents a computer model of one such tie-less community, in which individuals pass the signal to random peers in random moments of time. Several simulations performed with the use of this model reveal that the tie-less community has interesting properties which are analogous to certain phenomena that occur in typical networks, including percolation, phase transitions and self-sustaining oscillations.
