Summary/Abstract: The author attemtps at setting the issues around the high/low culture distinction within today’s concept of show (not identical with spectacle/performance). His starting point is an outline of the history of Eye in conjunction with technologies of seeing which were imitated by the invention and propagation of the stereoscope. Among the modernistic artists who followed the vision up were Władysław Strzemiński (solaristic landscapes, photo-collage nocturnes) and Tadeusz Kantor ( ‘Theatre of Death’). The author juxtaposes their output with the works of a contemporary artist, Krzysztof Wodiczko.
