Summary/Abstract: A discussion with a concept expressed by Michał Paweł Markowski in his essay book Życie na miarę literatury. Eseje. The concept is namely one of a hermetic, melancholic, and hysterical. The first said type is ‘pure-word literature’ and the other ones refer to literature which establishes a contact with ‘life’ through exchanging it for a symbol-imbued ‘existence’ that becomes a feed for interpretations. Yet, an addendum is suggested: literature is not only about words, it does not boil down to a more or less successful process of symbolisation of ‘life’. It is also about producing images and/or representations; these are not liable to interpretation, and this is why they retain their strength.
