Summary/Abstract: Any assessment of the events in the life of an artist and his work is, naturally, always subjective. It is not possible to draw on some absolute norms; every creative person works according to his own scale of values, whether he openly admits to them or not. The second problem, particularly when it comes to literature or film, is the transformation of the context in which it is received. This concerns how the reading of a work has changed in the past and how the social context influenced its creation in the first place and its perception. The following lines are not the judgement of history on “good countryman” Jasný. Rather they are a contribution to an open discussion on his life’s work, which still appeals to new viewers and therefore deserves new views and readings.
