Summary/Abstract: Among the slanted (pseudo) documentary films that make up the early joint work of directors Vojtěch Jasný and Karel Kachyňa, their 1952 film Neobyčejná léta (Extraordinary Years) outdoes itself in its tendentiousness. The scripted documentary depicts the successful collectivization of the south Bohemian village of Vyhnanice, caricaturing the local farmers. Jasný repeatedly returned to the subject of the countryside in his films, apparently in an effort to right the injustice committed here. He may have succeeded in doing so in his greatest work, 1968’s Všichni dobří rodáci (All My Good Countrymen).
