Summary/Abstract: This paper is a short presentation of the moral-philosophical conception of the great Roman speaker and philosopher Marcus Tullius Cicero, father of the famous concept of humanitas. The author analyses an important moral-philosophical value of Cicero and of other ancient thinkers: temperance (temperantia, moderatio), considered a fundamental virtue of the human being, besides wisdom (sapientia), justice (iustitia), generosity (liberalitas), bravery (fortitudo).
