Summary/Abstract: The article concerns the British Cabinet system, a popular and effective model of governance operating not by a statue but by constitutional convention. Many standard texts explore the cabinet government genesis in the 17th century; however, its most crucial formation seems to have taken place between the years 1782–1916. Due to the social and political changes, the main centres of powers: the Monarchy, the House of Lords and the Commons, produced accordingly a modified type of their governing body, i.e. the cabinet. The article sets itself the task of investigating the subsequent phases of the cabinet system development, during which the monarchy supremacy gave way to the legislature predominance, which in turn became dependant on the will of the people. The institutionalisation of the governance practice at the beginning of the 20 century in the form th of the Cabinet Office and its Secretariat resulted in consolidating the cabinet system, which has remained much the same ever since.
