Summary/Abstract: History of Religions was introduced in the curriculum of the Orthodox educational institutions since 1948, but still there are voices which deny its utility for the theology student. There are a few arguments that contradict this opinion. First of all are the theological arguments, followed by the missionary ones. The first category includes the main threefold theological arguments (Adamic, Abrahamic and Christic), the role of History of Religions to complete the other theological disciplines and also its capacity to strengthen the faith. The missionary category of arguments consists in underlying the lack of a theology of religions, the missionary exigencies of the contemporary globalized world, the necessity of a religious dialogue, and the general status of the theologian in society.
