Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on the character of Quetzalcoatl (Feathered Snake), variously interpreted idol of a crucial role in the mythological systems of pre-Cortezian Mezzo-America. The first part presents essential myths (of mainly cosmo- and anthropogenic nature), in which the character appears; the latter part is an attempt to present broadly a wide range of interpretations of the character featuring in the text, particularly in the context of the conflict between difusionists and isolationists and is their explanation in the context of cultural syncretism, which happened in New Spain in the times of early colonialism.
