On Catholic “Heresies”: An Orthodox Christian Perspective

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this essay is to refute the Orthodox critiques of the Catholic Church, proceeding from the historical and critical standpoint of catholic theologians on some “controversial dogmas” discussed by the author in the original context in which they were put forward. These disputed issues include the following: the doctrine of the Filioque, the Immaculate Conception, the ex cathedra infallibility of the Pope and the dogma of Purgatory. Beyond the scholarly debate, the paper is also a passionate plea for preserving the basic unity of the Christian Church.
