Summary/Abstract: In his poetics, Necip Fazıl Kısakürek expresses the purpose of his poetry as “being in quest of Allah” thereby implying that his whole sense of art is built upon an “exalted” asset. However, Necip Fazıl’s life, sense of art, involvement in polemics, political attitude, political choices, passion for activities lay the ground for the conflict between his values and the real life. Under the burden of choosing between “exalted” values throughout his life, Necip Fazıl contends a tragic fate at the same time. The traces of such a tragic fate can be seen in not only “Çile” but also all other works of Necip Fazıl. Within the Republican period Turkish poetry , one of the poets who experienced the deepest travail of change phase that the poetry underwent, is doubtlessly Necip Fazıl Kısakürek. His personal melancholy and the deep effect of Orient mysticism on him, transform his poems into a tragic extent. This conflict can be mostly felt and solved in his poem called “ Çile” and for this reason “Çile” is the poem where one can observe poet’s tragic confrontation and his crash most explicitly
