Summary/Abstract: The study of the necropoles represents one of the essential sources for the historical knowledge. There cannot be marked very exactly the areas of the five ancient Tomis necropoles arranged around the city, from the North side, to the West and to the South. The tombs were grouped mostly along the roads going to Histria (approximately the present Mamaia boulevard), to the Danube (approximately Tomis boulevard) and to Callatis (approximately Ferdinand and 1 Mai boulevards). As regarding the types of tombs from the Tomitan Roman epoch necropolis, we can speak about the coexistence of two main funerary rites, incineration and inhumation. We can affirm that the situation of the Tomitan necropoles is still under debate, the archaeological researches which are still under development can bring important answers and even changes about their sites or can bring new data about the rite and the funerary ritual of our city ancient inhabitants.
