Summary/Abstract: Different concepts of risk are treated in this paper. Etymology of the term risk in its historical, cultural, and religious context is described. Three specific notions of risk, i.e. utilitarian, legal, and ethical are defined. Attitudes toward risk, risk perception, and risk taking behavior are considered as main cultural difference. Attitudes toward risk as an aspect of relativization of modern global society are examined. Ethical discourse can be seen as a process of social construction of ethical norms and standards, as well as a kind of fashion. In this respect the nature of international ethical standards, created and disseminated by international institutions are analyzed. In conclusion a vision of risky society waiting WIA /Worst Imaginable Accident/ is used to stress the ethical dimension of global risk factors.
