Is Economics Adequate To Explain The Reality? Some Reflections in The Face of The 2008–2009 Global Crises

Summary/Abstract: The article is an attempt to present some observations in the current debate on the state of economics in the face of the global crisis. First, we try to reconstruct recent developments in economics using some basic linguistic tools. Second, we present the current public debate on the state of economics, especially macroeconomics, and we underline some methodological issues concerning the ability of economics to describe and explain the contemporary global crisis. Finally, we conclude with the statement that the current economic crisis may contribute to the growing plurality and pluralism of mainstream economics.
