Summary/Abstract: The present paper attempts to offer a brief survey of some trends in the theory of translation, followed by remarks on the poetics of translation as it can be inferred from the theoretical work of some of M. Eminescu’s Romanian translators. Poems translated by Leon Leviţchi, A. Bantaş, Corneliu M. Popescu, D. Cuclin and P. Grimm are analysed with a view to comparing the translators’ theoretical positions with their ‘hands-on’ practice.
