Diary and auto-fiction of the Gidian self

Summary/Abstract: If we consider the work of André Gide as a whole, it can be considered as a long and constant effort to reach the truth of self, the intimate nature of the author and characters in equal measure. The changing nature and complexity can not be seized from a particular work, but from the construction of the whole creation. Our work proposes to address this theme of self discovery, with a corpus of texts representing Gide’s self-fictional creation, particularly his Si le grain... and his Diary. We will examine the relationship between the development of Gide’s auctorial self, the self of the character and his intimate self as revealed in his diary.
