Summary/Abstract: This study complements and partially amends the finding s presented in Jan Neruda a Židé: texty a kontexty – Neruda and the Jews: texts and contexts (Prague: Akropolis 2012). Additionally the author presents his own interpretation of Neruda’s anti‑Jewish text Pro strach židovský — For Jewish Fear (1869) and above all analyses texts on the Jews from the 1870s and 1880s: a) he deals with the way these views of the Jews play a role in the meaning of the text concerned; b) he does not just focus on negative statements; c) he pays attention to the intertextual relations between Neruda’s texts and relations with the texts of other authors; d) he points to the correspondences between Neruda’s writing on the Jews and discourse on minorities. Finally, it is stated that a comprehensive analysis of Neruda’s writing on the Jews and conclusions regarding his antisemitism must be based on texts from all periods and show their development, it must take account of the role of humour, it should not just include Neruda’s journalism and it should also systematically compare his writing on the Jews with his texts on other ethnic groups.
