Musical Period as Intonation-Compositional Structure of the Text

Summary/Abstract: The article deals with a problem of analyzing possibilities of musical interpretation of text in terms of syntactic intonation, dynamics and composition. The aim is applying musicological method of functional analysis in order to enrich intonation and compositional structure of literary text. Historical and comparative method as well as musicological method of functional analysis get employed in the article. Having introduced modern classifications of relations between music and literature, as well as method of functional analysis, the author of the article proceeds to analyzing composition, dynamics and rhythmic structure of poem Seniai aš laukiu išsiilgęs…[‘Long Have I Been Waiting...’] by Maironis. Along with applying the method of functional analysis, she also uses the concept of musical period. Such analysis enables her to enrich conception of intonation in the work.
