Summary/Abstract: The article is a concise presentation of the scientific results of a project sponsored by the Polish Aid government program in two parts: firstly, insight into the history of the oldest surviving mosque in Sudan and archaeological and architectural research carried out to date, and secondly, a review of building conservation issues concerning the architecture and wall paintings preserved from before it was turned into a mosque. The presented program of conservation and restoration works is planned for the fall of 2013.
