The Restitution of Nationalized Buildings: Preliminary Moral Evaluation

Summary/Abstract: This paper has two main objectives. First, starting from the assumption that an argument in applied ethics is an effort to deploy moral reasoning in the evaluation of a specified set of facts (a „case”), the article tries to illuminate the relevant facts for the assessment of property restitution. The conclusion will be that the case to be considered is the legal history of restitution in Romania. Secondly, it tries to identify some of the questions to which a moral assessment of a rectificatory policy should answer.
