Summary/Abstract: The part played by Jews in the Czechoslovak resistance abroad represents a distinctive historical chapter. While under Communism historiography did not expressly hide the presence of Jewish soldiers, neither did it draw attention to them. Only aft er 1989 did the Czechoslovak emigrant Erich Kulka remind readers of the surprising fact that at certain points armed Czechoslovak operations literally stood and fell with the participation of Jewish emigrants, who played a signifi cant role in the early days of the formation of overseas units. Translating that participation into numbers is rather diffi cult. Pre-war Czechoslovakia was very liberal in terms of religion and many such people came from such a free-thinking environment that they felt no need to identify publicly with the Jewish faith of their forbears. Two brothers who emerged from that environment, Felix and Arnošt Pollak, fought in the ranks of the Czechoslovak overseas army.
