Summary/Abstract: The subject of the article is the link between ultimate situations and self-experience. Deliberations show that experiencing ultimate situations broadens self-consciousness, because it is in these moments that we see if we are in fact the way we perceive ourselves, and whether those values we prefer are those, which we ourselves preserve. What’s more, anxiety and chaos force us to ask fundamental questions about whether we really are the way we would like and should be. And so, we are forced to enter into a dialogue with ourselves. We have to give answer to the questions about what is the best way to live – it is a fundamental choice. Moreover, in ultimate situations, the individual is left to their own devices, nobody can help them make a decision, so they experience personal responsibility and freedom. The individual has a chance to perceive that which transcends their bodily nature, biological existence – what is unchangeable and infinite.
