Students' Preparation for Intercultural Communication

Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on the analysis of videomaterials which can be used for teaching Russian as a foreign language. The author points out their special value as a source of sociocultural information. The successful communication between the members of different national societies can't be achieved without language and culture competence. So one of the main tasks in teaching Russian for foreigners is to create a common with Russian native speakers cultural base, which is necessary for intercultural communication. The author comes to the conclusion that videomaterials based on popular and well - known Russian movies are extemely valuable what is the creation of language and cultural competence concerned. These videomaterials can be determined as a special type of intertexts. As a rule they contain a great number of various national cultural phenomenons. The peculiarity of videotexts depends on the combination of video image and audio effect. The cultural information in videotexts can be conducted by verbai and non-verbal means. Videotexts are of a great help in study Russian communicative behaviour, gestures and etiquette.
