Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the concept of silence in I. Bunin's poetry. The article reveals that the word-concept "silence" is the most widely used in the poet's works. It covers not only such notions as "absence of sound, noise, movement" but also "dying", "fading". Silence generates flight of spirit, it is related to physical, spiritual and eschatological peace, calm. Silence is associated with the world of nature and the spiritual world of humans. The word-concept "silence" tends to make collocations like "silence and calm", "night, twilight and calm", "sleep and calm". Transfer from the external world of nature to the world of spirit is typical of L Bunin's poetry. In his last works, the concept of silence is replaced by the motif of disharmony, discord with the world, and inclination to universal laws of existence and this changes its semantic aureole.
