Summary/Abstract: This paper reports on remedial activities implemented by the public administration in Cracow. Its aim is to explore the preventative measures against the crisis in tourism between 1989 and 2006. The theoretical basis for the study is the Science of Management and in the empirical part, previously unpublished source documents. The methods used include: the analysis of the documents, case study and desk research. The analysis of the evidence shows that the public administration in Cracow in the period of 1989-2006 overcame the tourism crisis using selected creative and entrepreneurial activities. The said activities included revitalization, selected promotion projects and a form of expert networking and controlling. However, it was not possible to meet all the recovery objectives in a sustainable way in the period concerned. Though the number of visitors grew, not all the problems faced by the municipal authorities were solved. However, it can definitely be stated that at that time Cracow was the leader among the post-socialist cities of easter Europe, and that it was able to use its historic potential to shape complementary tourist market. The experience gained in Cracow at that time could be an inspiration for anyone interested.
