Summary/Abstract: Juvenile diabetes is one of the most common chronic illnesses of children nowadays. Taking care and offering support to a child diagnosed with diabetes can prove to be a difficult challenge. The life of the entire family will radically change. The responsibility causes emotional distress, which affects the whole family. The most important proves to be to create a “normal” environment for the child, so that it does not feel all the time different from the other children, and that the family functions properly. The therapy could help the parents to accept the child’s diagnosis, to better handle the situation, not to blame themselves for the situation, to acquire scientific knowledge of managing diabetes. The family implication in the disease management is essential and unavoidable whenever the affected person is a child, and this implication normally leads to the increasing of the adherence to the treatment. The transfer of too much responsibility, too quickly to the sick child must be avoided, else this can lead to the decrease of adherence to treatment and the hospitalization will be more frequent, increasing the risk of complications.
