Summary/Abstract: The aim of the research paper is to develop sound waveforms database for concatenative speech synthesis in Lithuanian. The features of the phonemes and diphones are examined in the paper. The final result of the work is the sound database for the Lithuanian language incorporating the phonemes and diphones. Synthesizer of the Lithuanian language may be developed using this sound database. To implement this work the program PRAAT was used. This software was selected due to its flexibility in the acoustic analysis of speech signals. The paper includes: 1. Analysis of the general functional diagram of speech synthesis by text as well as the principles of concatenate synthesis. 2. Compilation and analysis of the versions of the diphones most commonly used in the Lithuanian language. 3. Description of the speech synthesis experiment using the recorded phonemes and diphones. 4. Recommendations for the improvement of the Lithuanian sound set and the quality of the signal to be synthesized.
