Summary/Abstract: The article is an attempt of cognition of the pattern of poetry, preceding the arguments about romanticism in Poland, based on translations of Friedrich Schiller’s ballad Diver (Der Taucher published in 1798). The source of texts from 1816 is a manuscript by Edward Walenty Kainka (Zbiór wierszy – A Collection of Poems, 1823) due to cognitive qualities, revealing linguistic-stylistic ambivalences and motivations of lyrical symbolic. There are also references to the translation by Stanisław Maykowski (1933), in the version corrected by Leopold Lewin (1962). Translations by Jan Nepomucen Kamiński and Józef Dionizy Minasowicz make it possible to understand the esthetics of the ballad in the area of the Mediterranean culture, Levant and Orient, in which the visualization of the sea together with writing tradition gave way to epistemological Faustus dreams and evoked desire to cross visible borders of reality, even at the cost of tragedy and human sacrifice.
