The Face of Slovakia: In Need of Historical Self-reflection for the Future

Summary/Abstract: In his speech, Pavol Hrušovský, President of the National Council of the Slovak Republic, addresses the tenth anniversary of an independent Slovakia. While summarizing main developments of the past decade, he focuses predominantly on history. Hrušovský compares the history of the society to a man's face and thus, analzyes the face of Slovakia. As he states, the tenth anniversary is a suitable occasion to look at our face and discover who we are, so that Slovakia influences confidently the events in Europe and meaningfully writes its future history.
