Summary/Abstract: The paper highlights recent developments in task-based teaching and learning that influence both the quality and content of the teaching we engage in at university level. Oral proficiency competence is at the very core of how ESP students perceive their overall language mastership and therefore the teaching of necessary strategies to be used while speaking in professional contexts is an important challenge for language instructors and course leaders. Taking these aspects into consideration, the paper brings into discussion the elements shaping up oral proficiency and suggests that task-based teaching represents an approach that proves to be extremely advantageous in oral proficiency enhancement. The practical focus is on a Business Communication project that has resulted from applying such a strategy.
