The Significance of the Friendship between the Holy Hierarchs Varlaam of Moldova and Petru Movilă of Kiev, for Contemporary Romanian Spirituality

Summary/Abstract: Orthodoxy is universal across time and has deeply imprinted its seal in the nature of the Romanian people. Our country emerges out of the earth that bears our seal and rises up the sky from where our ancestors and heroes watch us. PetruMovilă proved always to be a defender of the Church and of the Orthodox tradition. Great Metropolitan Varlaam’sconcern for the salvation of his flock was as great as the care for the enlightenment of the “Romanian people”. The Romanian Orthodox spirituality experienced considerable prosperity and spiritual strength due to the friendship of these two Holy Hierarchs that should be preserved.
