Aspects of Missionary Work in the Finnish Orthodox Church – The New Valaam

Summary/Abstract: The Orthodox Archdiocese of Finland is an autonomous Church within the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinopole and a minority of less than two percent of the Finnish population. Nevertheless, this Church enjoys great visibility within the society to whom it belongs, it encourages activities for its members that are part of the many asociations under its patronage. Very important elements through which information is disseminated are the New Valamo Monastery and the Valamo Lay Academy that succesfully spread the message of the Orthodox Church within the majority lutheranprotestant Finnish society.
