Summary/Abstract: An economist by training and supposedly a scientific, fairly balanced, personality, George Vasilievici was anything but that. He spent most of his time talking for hours on end in literary circles and clubs, reading manuscripts for cultural magazines like Tomis, Tuesday and Impact, the lot of them based in Constan]a, his native city that he hardly, if ever, left in his short life – he was born on June 3rd 1978 and committed suicide on April 10th 2010, in the morning, on Saturday, the week after Easter Sunday. He first tied his neck scarf in a knot, stuck it to an iron bar in his kitchen balcony, and then hanged himself. A few minutes before he had sent his friends a message in which the ending words “you should crucify yourself, George Vasilievici” were a leitmotif. But he was not a religious person, and no one took him for his words, just like no one had taken him seriously when he let a friend know, in late March, that he meant to kill himself. He said he was “waiting for his heart to break down into smithereens” after he ingested 100 milligrams of Xanax.
