Summary/Abstract: The author positions VOCEL’s poem cycle The Premyslides (1839) within the Czech-German literary context. Based on Vojtěch JIRÁT’s reference to VOCEL’s imitation of the Nibelungenlied verse in the poetic cycle mentioned above, the author’s aim is to uncover potential links between this poetic work and the epic German poem The Song of the Nibelungs. The study outlines the key role of German periodicals and of the SCHLEGEL brothers in mediating the influence of the Nibelungenlied, as well as the important role of German writers living in the Czech lands (e.g. Josef Georg MEINERT, Uffo HORN, etc.) or for instance Václav HANKA’s role. The main body of the paper focuses on the interpretation of specific poems of VOCEL where The Song of Nibelungs, German epic poetry or the response of German Romanticism ‘meets’ in various ways the model for the Czech patriotic romantic poetry, which was based on The Manuscript of Dvůr Králové and The Manuscript of Zelená Hora.
