Summary/Abstract: According to a bulletin issued by the Society of Yugoslav Writers (No. 1, 1927) it follows that the Croat P.E.N. Centre was founded on January 7th, 1927, in the Town Cellar (a well known cafe) in Zagreb, and was called the P.E.N. Club - Centre Zagreb. The inaugural meeting of the Zagreb Centre was attended by Miodrag Ibrovac and Gustav Krklec from the Belgrade Centre whlch was already founded in 1926. It is interesting to note that the first president and first secretary of the Zagreb Centre of P.E.N. were writers whose professional vocation was that of physician. They were Milivoj Dezman, M.D. and Duro Dimovic, M.D., whereas the first members were Pecija Petrovic, Branimir Livadic, Vladimir Dvornikovic, Tito Strozzi, Josip Kulundzic, Stanko Tomasic, lvan Nevistic, Ahmed Muradbegovic, Slavko Batusic and Slobodan Galogafa. On this occasion the Zagreb newspaper »Rijec« wrote that the inaugural meeting of the P.E.N. Club in Zagreb »for the first time gathered together many irreconcilable literary opponents«.
