Summary/Abstract: The international supply chains, in which leading international companies with geographically distributed operations are leaders, strengthen their presence in Bulgaria as well. Their extraordinary competitive pressure puts the Bulgarian chains, in which the manufacturer of the finished product is a Bulgarian company, to the test. The aim of this article is to analyze and evaluate the prerequisites for the implementation of the supply chain management in the international and Bulgarian chains. The evaluation was made on the basis of information collected from 148 enterprises through personal interviews using questionnaires. The prerequisites for managing the supply chain are discussed in four aspects: 1) chain integrating efforts, which the investigated enterprises make and the level of the received support, 2) factors that stimulate the integration efforts, 3) anticipated benefits from the integration and 4) factors that impede the integration.
