Summary/Abstract: The contribution publicizes so far unknown results of philological and palaeographical analysis of a sandstone fragment found by V. Hrubý during archaeological research carried out in Staré Město u Uherského Hradiště in 1981. Authors of the contribution present hypotheses suggested by two Czech slavists – V. Tkadlčík and F. V. Mareš.Both scholars came with their own reconstructions of the supposed inscription (in Glagolitic and Greek letters) on the stone. Their conclusions differ as their both locate the symbol of a cross in different parts of the stone fragment. V. Tkadlčík allows for situating the cross in the right top corner, F. V. Mareš expects the cross in the down left corner (as if turned by 180 degrees). Both hypotheses deserve special attention. Authors of the treatise assume that further cooperation with experts (especially archaeologists and historians) is necessary and might lead to new findings.
