Summary/Abstract: The paper is an attempt to present in a thorough form migration processes which occurred in towns of Katowice Province in the 1977—2006 period. The analysis was based on the following measures: migration balance, mobility coefficient, coefficient of migration efficiency. The obtained material indicates a decrease in the size of population movements, showing essential differentiation in both the class of towns size (large, medium, small) and the spatial aspects. Mobility coefficient indicates a dominated position of medium towns in spatial mobility of population in this area. There is a clear zonal character in migration processes, especially in case of western-central part and eastern part of the Province. In the first area population migrations did not disturb too much previous socio-demographic structures, as it took place in the eastern part of conurbation and western-central part of Podbeskidzie. In migration processes three types of spatial processes may be distinguished: vector-like, twodirectional and concentric. The vector-like model appeared to be the most common in Silesia Province. Although in the northern and central part of the Province, vector-like type and two-directional type occur, in the southern part of the Province concentric model is represented. This differentiation of the directions of migration changes confirms lack of a uniform character of socio-demographic transformations, in the studied area, which is often pointed out in literature (Ru nge, 2005, p. 201).
