Summary/Abstract: In the Republic of Croatia, as in other modem continental European countries, the basic responsibilities of the police include those related to the prevention and detection of criminal offences and the maintenance of public order. There are also other areas of police responsibility, however unlike those mentioned above, they do not necessarily restrict the fundamental rights of citizens, nor do they require the use of force during their exercise.
