"Community Policing" A New Style of Policing in the Community

Summary/Abstract: The role played by the police, as well as their activities and duties, has changed throughout history. Today, more than ever, the police in democratic states, governed by the Rule of Law, are facing new challenges. These challenges include: 1) how to confront increasing criminality under circumstances of extensive globalization; and 2) methods and strategies required to combat criminality, especially in common economic areas such as the European Union. One hopes that the new organization of the police at the level of the European Union should be an answer to that challenge.
