The Role of the Non Profit Sector in the Polish Economy

Summary/Abstract: The paper aims to explain the role of nonprofit (third sector or non-governmental) organizations in yhe economy. Based on relevant literature and socioeconomic life observation I find that there are three types of nonprofit organizations (NPOs henceforth) and thay play a triple role - productive, distributive and representative. The analysis of NPO's actual tasks and views represented in the literature lead to conclusion that NPOs constitute a pernament component of the economic structure of the country and that they realize tasks which cannot be accomplished by existing for-prosit organizations, public financ organizations (neither the market nor the state), political parties, nor formal social structure organizations.
