BRONISŁAW BONAWENTURA MARKIEWICZ (1842-1912) - PREKURSOR PEDAGOGIKI OPIEKUŃCZEJ W POLSCE
The precursor of care education in Poland

Summary/Abstract: Father Bronisław Markiewicz was not only a great educator, but also with the author of an idea for upbringing and education of children applying. Father Jan Bosko's rules and organizational solutions to give the educational process the character of preventive system. The system arose as an answer to the children's educational needs in the specific enviroment of the past century, not only in Galicia, but in the whole country. It is therefore justifiable to ask whether it can be used today's complicated situation and the style of living of young people now. The work of the pupils, the development of autonomy, the fostering of initiative in children, showing confidence in them even in important matters abd elimination of humilitating punishment were the main elements of Father Markiewicz's educational system. Pupils were given a large measyre of freedom regarding their religious practise. They were rather influenced by example. The kind and the amount of work depended on the age of the children, the older pupils were engaged in production work.
