Josef Dobrovsky as the father of critical studies of the sources on Czech history

Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the activity of Josef Dobrovsky as a figure of Czech spiritual enthusiasm of the Age of Enlightenment. The role of G. Dobner's works in the self-education of Josef Dobrovsky is demonstrated. The author examines the stages of the process of Dobrovsky's becoming a philologist, his contribution to the study of early Czech history and literature, Sts. Cyril's and Methodius's activity, and other themes.
