Summary/Abstract: In this paper the author considers the Bosniac experience of politics during the Ottoman period in Bosnia. Among the issues separately addressed are the Bosniac experience of politics as war, the experience of politics as a critique of the Ottoman state, the experience of politics as state repression, politics as conformism, the experience of remaining aloof from politics, the experience of “heterodoxy”as against dogmatic religious, ideological and political orthodoxy, and the experience of politics as original, committed and effective practice. The author covers these different experiences of politics incrementally and analytically through the specific stages of the historic evolution of Bosnia, and of the Bosniacs within it.
